The Bus Commando

Without so much as an mp3 player on my person, I try to find ways to occupy my simple, simple mind during bus rides. This morning’s ride was ridiculously long since practically half of EDSA was barricaded, something to do with an anniversary or some shit. Anyway, I sat at the very front of the bus and I was treated to a delightful banter between the driver and the conductor who was a total noob.

The on-going on-board entertainment when I got on was a series of music videos by big-haired rock bands (read: Bon Jovi, Poison etc.) Thankfully the CD skipped and driver ordered the conductor to put on a movie. It was one of those 500 movies in one DVDs. An arguably hilarious conversation ensued:

Driver: Put a movie on. The Arnold Schwazenegger collection.

Conductor: Which of these should I play?

Driver: The 6th day. That’s a good one.

Conductor: Too late, I already pressed play.

Driver: What are we watching?

Conductor: Commando.

Driver: Is it any good?

Conductor: It’s a movie called Commando, how can it NOT be good?

Delightful.

True enough, in the first 10 minutes of the movie, no less than 10 people are murdered. Then we see Arnold carrying a tree. That’s right, a whole tree trunk… on his shoulders... with a chainsaw on one hand. Let’s not sell Arny short. He mentions right after being rained down with bullets that he can smell the enemy. I shit you not. He can detect the scent of the bad guys as they approach. Then there’s Henrique, a big black dude in a fabulously colored Hawaiian shirt and a fedora whose main job is to be mean to Arnold. Oh and did I mention Arnold plays a soldier named Col. Matrix? Colonel fucking Matrix! He’s like Neo only he’s a real dude not a pasty emo lesbian who talks in whispers. And then Col. Matrix snaps Henrique’s neck in a plane from which he jumps right after take off. Yeah, height can kiss Col. Matrix’s muscley East German ass.

Later on, he would rip off the passenger seat from a convertible with his bare hands. From that point on I stopped watching as I feared my eyeballs would explode from all the awesome.

Now this???

Isn't it just lovely how Bayani Fernando manages to find new and exciting ways to piss everybody off?

First, there's the traffic caused by the construction of that second elevated u-turn along C5 just before The Fort. Something that i would bet be as useless, crappily designed and expensive as the first one just across it. Then THIS??? I now have to unnecessarily employ the services of an overpass to cross EDSA. Which means the 30 seconds that used to take me to cross EDSA, from the SEC building to Robinson's Galleria, have octupled because I have to climb 5 storeys worth of stairs and make my way through an overpass that practically needs a map because it's a fucking labyrinth.

It doesn't end there. Good Ol' BF thought of everything. And by that I mean he didn't bother to do any research on the height range of the average Filipino. Take into consideration my terrible, terrible posture, I still have to lower my head lest i smack my forehead on the goddamn MRT tracks. THE MRT FUCKING TRACKS! Toss in the fact that there is almost no form of illumination and you find yourself getting robbed and possibly ass-raped. And if you manage to make your way out of that dang-blasted future estate of the homeless, you land inches away from the oncoming EDSA traffic, which is on your right. Turn to your left and you will be greeted by a barrage of cars coming out of Galleria driven by rich fucktards.

What, pray tell, was wrong with the old system anyway? There hasn't been a case of human roadkill in a very looooong time. What the hell? THE FUCKING HELL??? HUH? Goddamn shit-for-brains.

What the...?

Last week, I had the sudden urge to go old school. Naturally, I downloaded The Neverending Story 1 & 2. A mininova user commented that it's the best fantasy movie for him / her. I would've had agreed with said user IF I KNEW WHAT THE HELL WENT ON.

Okay... So Bastian is a lonely boy who gets constantly ignored by his balding father. He also gets tossed in a dumpster by a trio of denim-clad 8 year-old bullies, apparently, on a regular basis. One day, after enjoying his daily allowance of being deposited in a dumpster full of hay(?!), he wanders into a bookstore and meets the neurotic owner, Mr. Koreander. Bastian finds him reading a book with a serious bling glued on the hard cover. The phone rings and Mr. Koreander leaves Bastian with the book, which is entitled The Neverending Story (dun dun dunnnn). Bastian speeds out of the store with it. When he gets to school, Bastian sees his class tending to a math exam. He says to himself, "Fuck that. I'ma lock mahself in the stockroom and peruse this here heavy ass book." So that's what he did. He gets so engrossed in the book that he forgets to go home. Who wouldn't? It's like the author downed three and a half bottles of bourbon after eating 2 kilos of MSG-laden Chinese fried rice before finally sitting down to write his masterpiece.

So here's the premise of the book, Fantasia (hehe) is being devoured by a force called the Nothingness. The Nothingness is represented by dark clouds and pretty much makes everything it touches cease to be (Hello, Galactus). The only one who can save Fantasia is its Empress. But alas, the empress has cancer, or whatever. She's ill. Fantasia's Prime Minister, Mr. Black "Yes-my-old-lady-got-busy-with-a-velociraptor" Dude, says that there is but one person who an save the empress. This 'warrior' turns out to be Atreyu, a white boy who fancies himself a woo-woo Indian. He adds that he must go on a quest alone and without anything but the clothes he is wearing. Other than that, Black Dude withholds all other information regarding the journey. Atreyu blindly rides into the horizon. He and his faithful steed reaches a swamp. They trek through the gloopy landscape and suddenly the horse begins to sink. We find out that the horse went emo. And such bad timing, too because they're in the Swamp of Sadness! (GASP!) The swamp slurps down sad people... and horses. Meanwhile, Bastian cries like a girl. Overcome with sadness, Atreyu begins to sink as well. How else would you feel if mud ate your horse? But look at the sky! It's a giant albino dachshund! No! It's Falkor, the luckdragon (allegedly)! He pulls Atreyu out before he becomes fossil fuel. Falkor can fly but lacks the ability to stand up. Atreyu continues his journey and finds out that in order to save the empress, an earthling must give her a new name (okay?). Guess who that earthling is. Go ahead, guess. Bastian. They hurry back to the Ivory tower but the Nothingness catches up with them and Falkor drops Atreyu into the Atlantic. Luckily, he survives but is promptly attacked by a giant talking wolf. He makes quick work of the lycan and heads to the tower. He meets the empress. She is a child who lives on a diet of glass, white paint and helium. The nothingness has reached the tower, so the empress breaks the fourth wall and directly addresses Bastian to give her a goddamn name. Bastian goes into denial that the book is talking to him and immediately regrets eating those brownies his dad told him never to touch. Bastian gives in and names the empress after his mother who is deader than a rock. But all his drama made him too late to Fantasia explodes. After that, for some reason, everything goes back to normal and the movie ends with Bastian riding Falkor and they chase the gang of dumpster depositors.

The end.

On to the 2nd installment!

Bastian is replaced by a 13 year-old lesbian. His dad becomes 10 years younger and with hair but still terribly uncaring. He insists that he is an engineer. Who cares? Anyway, Bastian is afraid of heights and screws up the swim team try outs. He visits Mr. Koreander's shop and asks if he has the book, "Stop being afraid of heights, dumbass!" Mr. Koreander scoffs at the boy and recommends a fiction about courage instead. He sees the Neverending Story book and the gold and silver medallion on the cover. He steals it for the second time. The kid has major issues. Bastian parks himself in his bedroom and begins to read. This time the book sucks him in. He is welcomed by a giant talking bird named Nimbly. Fantasia is being terrorized by an evil bitch who has a penchant for making things hollow and empty. Her name is Xayide and she has a machine that could give Bastian Alzheimer's. Apparently, Bastian can wish for anything in Fantasia. Xayide's contraption plucks out a memory from Bastian's noodle in exchange for every wish. Nimbly turns out to be one of Xayide's cohorts. His job is to make Bastian fart out wishes. But where is the empress? Xayide trapped the useless broad in the Ivory tower just because she can. Bastian meets Atreyu who is now played by a Mexican boy. They find out that the first step to defeating the foe is to name it. Of course.

Bastian: Hawt damn! It makes everything empty. Let's call it The Emptiness.

Xayide: Shit.

So, Bastian and Atreyu, with the help of his army of wind up toys fitted with sparklers, storm Xayide's fortress and she quickly admits defeat. In reality, Xayide, the walking Christmas ornament, aims to make Bastian wish a whole lot more so that he'll be out of the way. They take her prisoner and head on to the Ivory Tower. Xayide wins Bastian over by being nice and giving him magical gifts. Atreyu finds out about Xayide's motives and tells Bastian about it. Bastian thinks that Atreyu is shitting with him so he kills the poor Mexican. Bastian finds out about the Alzheimer inducing machine so he wishes for Atreyu back from the dead. They make up, not realizing that Atreyu is now, technically, a zombie. Before he runs out of memories, Bastian wishes for Xayide to have a heart. She implodes. They meet the empress and being the sadistic bitch that she is, tells Bastian that in order for him to go back to his world, he must jump down Niagara Falls, mocking his fear of heights and dying a horrible, horrible death. The little lesbian grabs his metaphorical balls and jumps down. He returns home and finds his dad worried like an engineer. They realize they love each other and the movie ends there.

3 hours of toxic glue trip!

*******************************************

Yesterday was Talk Like Yoda Day. It damn.

Next week.... DETOX!

Here's the dealio...

Starting next week, Monday, I plan to go clean. So, for the rest of this week I shall eat as much as my gullet can handle and more. I shall wolf down all the fat and salt I could get my hands on. But sugar is still out of the question. I'm still at a point in my life where I require the services of my feet.

And come the weekendzorz, I shall get blackout drunk that Jesus would regret inventing alcohol by turning water to booze that one time. (But I'm sort of grounded, so my best bet is to get plastered blind before noon.)

FUCK YEAH!

Who's with me?!?!?11!!11

It's about time...
that I set foot on Puerto Galera.

Several colleagues (including the company owner and president) from the Korean office came for vacation last July to August. We tagged along for the galera trip. We left August 1, Friday. People said the boat trip to the island would take a while, and it did. The boat ride was sufficiently bumpy and we were all excited and whoa'd and aaaah'd the first several times we hit a big-ish wave. But the trip lasted well over an hour so it got old and we all just sat there and shut up. Strange things happened on that boat. Meg heard a faint whisper and asked if i said something. i said i didn't, so i blamed the sea. At which point Meg started to ask what it wanted. There were random patches of pollution and random patches raincloud-infested sea. Fun.

The other went a day ahead so we were just meeting them there. When we got there (the 6 of us) , a team of about 15 dudes came to our welcome and offered to carry our stuff. Since we were more than able, we didn't care to indulge any of them of their offering. We snuck into this ok hotel-resort, Red Sun. I had to share a room with my Canadian editor, Jordan and an American writer, Chris. The room smelled of a high class bordello.

A few minutes passed and we found ourselves on another boat ride to another island to have a BBQ luncheon, go snorkeling then fishing. I did not bother to snorkel. Mainly because I didn't want to look like a cadaver being dragged by a motorboat. But the rest didn't have any problem with that. we had lunch and proceeded with the fishing bit. The fishing equipment comprised of nylon strings with a hook on the end and wrapped around a plastic PET bottle. A tiny piece of rusted metal was tied near the hook and served as weight. Suffice to say none of us caught anything. Our hooks got caught on rocks a few times and that was about all excitement we got form that. However. the boat guys did catch a few fish-lings.

During that time, my Boss whipped put a few of her... Hyun-isms.

A boat guy jumped into the water to spearfish, shirt off:

Me: What is that guy doing?
Hyun: Being hot.

Some locals were walking along the shore with a dog.

Jordan: What animal is that, walking with those people on the beach.
Hyun: A tiger?
Jordan: A tiger? Then they are in great danger!

We got back to the resort. I took a shower and found out that the hotel shampoo was similar to that of a dog's. It had no smell and didn't care to foam. We had a nice 4-course dinner to celebrate our president's birthday. My editor attempted to order a pitcher of margarita for the whole table but was surprised to know there's a particular "process" when ordering such alcoholic concoction. It blew our minds. I wondered if I'm ready to consume a margarita that called for a specific "process'. Did i bring with me the needed documents? Were there forms and waivers involved? i never knew what that process was. I just got myself a beer. I tried to talk to the servers in Filipino but they insisted to talk in English with their faux Hawaiian accent (yes, apparently, there's a Hawaiian accent), which made is so much harder for us to communicate.

We got back to the hotel. Since our room was a tad crowded, I moved in with our president and Inchul since they got the suite, which was waaay bigger. I went around to inspect the hotel. When I was in middle of getting lost to find the pool, Inchul and Chris called me up to join them for drinks of beer and Soju, by the, where else, pool. Jordan and Hyun joined us shortly. Chris could not take his eyes off the only other occupied table, a group of mildly drunk, middle-aged Korean ladies. They sang and danced as we watched in interest. He said a fight was going to break out sooner or later, so we better keep our eyes peeled. I never happened. At one point Jordan challenged us to a rap-off. 3 Asians and two white guys rapping, i said let's do it, but no one had the balls to start it off. We talked about a torrent of things from Hyun and her attraction to guys with neo-nazi hairdo, to me and my virginity. After a while, the alcohol and exhaustion started to kick in so i retired to the room.

The next day, we had breakfast and probably the worst coffee i've ever had. After that, we went to the Jungle Tour. Meg and Liz bailed coz they weren't feeling well but their place were quickly taken by 2 Frenchmen. Aboard a jeepney that apparently ran on the screaming souls of 10,000 slaughtered cats and a cattle, we went to some other resort to pick up some kayaks. The kayaks never came. That wasted a full hour of our time. A short drive and we stopped at an overlooking. There was a family of goats, which Mr. Moon, our president, promptly chased around. We took the necessary photos then drove to a really nice waterfalls. Again, took some pictures, ate 2 peso bananas and went to the john. After an arguably long drive, THE Jungle Tour began. We got off the jeep and were greeted by "guides". The guides turned out to be vendors of, as Chris lovingly put it, hand-made crap. As early as that they began to pitch in their, uhm, goods. We needed to cross a river six times. because that one river meandered along like nobody's business. Anyhoot, the tour went on and we were made aware of every kind of vegetation that was shooting out of the ground, courtesy of our guides. The focal point of that tour was a place called Hidden Paradise. Which I thought was really nice. But Chris, God bless him, described it as more of a hidden body of water with some rocks than a paradise. haha! We had lunch there. Some went for a dip and that was about it. Oh, and the vendors cornered me like a horde of zombies to buy their shit, which I did. We trekked back to the jeep.

We stopped at some.... place. Our main guide told us it's time to go kayaking. Jordan, my editor, and I did not plan to go but went ahead to see them off. With beers in our hands, we walked through a steel suspension bridge that's 50% rust. and had holes the size of my head. Nothing adds flavor to your vacation than the thrill of dying a horrible, horrible death. So we went around a small town. After a while, I started having doubts as to the possibility of the kayaking thing. Before we know it we were back at the jeep, clueless of what just happened. We were then made aware that THAT town was a town of a local tribe and was part of the tour. Chris said, "It was nice tour of poverty." I told my editor that we should've thought the kayaking wasn't gonna happen when nobody cared to bring the kayaks down from the roof of the jeep. We drove to another spot to really go kayaking. At which point it started to rain, really hard. The concerned people started to prepare for their river escapade, while we sat inside the jeep and drank beers. There were some local girls cavorting in the river with just their heads above the water. Jordan, the two Frenchmen and I were like, "Stand up. Stand up..." Inchul brought us back to our senses saying that they were a person short. Clearly, no one would take the bullet, so I presented myself.

I got paired with Chris who has some experience with riding a canoe. After some minutes of figuring out how to manipulate the confounded contraption, it started to become fun. It did quite a number on my legs, tho. My arms are used to abuse and stress, so that didn't matter. Then our boat capsized for some reason. We straightened ourselves out and got back on track. But the boat was a bit wobbly than normal. Then we capsized, again. In that process, Chis whacked me at the back of the head with the paddle. ouch. Our boat took in a lot of water from the first tipping. Our river guide saw that we needed help so he traded his one man boat. Chris went on alone while I rode with the guide who was a kayaking machine. I just practically sat there and enjoyed the scenery and still we finished waaay ahead of everyone. It was fun. I have to admit. Except maybe for being hit in the head with a paddle. That sucked beans. For the trip back, everyone was pretty much drained beyond reason so we just slept.

Back at the hotel, we opted to just have dinner at the hotel restaurant. After that we talked about what happened during the day. Meg and Liz went around and got themselves temporary tattoos, then took a lot of pictures, which Meg accidentally erased. we told them of our wonderful day then went to our rooms to recuperate.

The next day the others had gone back to Manila. Just the 6 of us were left. I woke up earlier and started to re-inspect the resort, in daylight this time. It was ok, really, only it was three inches from the sea. The beach was really small the waves could swallow you if you hung out at the stoops. After breakfast, us Filipinos went on our own to buy souvenirs and whatnot, while the others toured the island by foot. In the middle of choosing a gift for my mom it started to rain, no it started to storm. But that didn't stop us from moving forward and looking for a T-shirt shop. We risked our lives to get people gifts that they probably won't appreciate. Well, what're ya gonna do.

So yeah, we got back to the hotel, packed our things then took the boat to the port. The trip back was relatively uneventful. There ended the journey.

Miss Hyun stuck a tree branch on my head for kicks.
<lj-embed id="37" />
That be the squeeling jeepney and the inadequate kayaks.
<lj-embed id="38" />
The day we came...
<lj-embed id="39" />
Did any of you really think this wasn't gonna be about the booze?
<lj-embed id="40" />

Oh PGMA, you amuse me so.

It's fun to have a lady president. Everyone's all too careful not to piss her off or else they get the Moled Litany of Doom. I sort of like PGMA. Really. She's cute, in a twisted kind of way.

*****************************************************

Mac-Mac is hating me right now for not parading in my underpants in front of people. Even though he's somewhere in the Atlantic right now serving drinks to old people on a giant ship, he somehow got hold of the news that Bench went on to hold auditions for an underwear show. I saw it in the telly, too.

Mac-Mac, whom i trained with to become men-of-the-sea, also hated me months ago for not parading in my underpants for a Mossimo bikini contest. Of, course, i won't walk around in my underwear. He has definitely lost it.

Mac-Mac, who almost joined the above competition but backed out because "his abs did not pop out enough", even tried to push me to join a body-building competition. I just laughed at the notion. Those guys could give me a whiplash just by raising an eyebrow. I'd look like a bearded infant.

I think it's back.

I have been making my brother worry to no end, lately. He said the left side of my face started to twitch again. The last time I went to see my neurologist, he was adamant that I be admitted immediately because he did some test and found out that my left parts are significantly weaker that my right parts. Also, he said I have an uneven smile. It's most definitely the stroke acting up again.I just said i'l talk it over with my aunts and maybe i'll come back later in the day. I did not come back. I have not the money to go through all of that again. It is also exhausting to live in a hospital for days. Good thing he prescribed a new stroke pill that's, apparently, better than my old pill (and much, much more expensive). The good doctor spoke the truth and my extremities felt even. When I got home, i checked the mirror and lo, i do have an uneven smile! And my right eye seems lazy.

Now, the twitching. I guess I'm gonna meet my deadline after all.

******************************************************

Isn't it sad that I started mapping out my whole day depending on my Friendster horoscope?

Today, my horoscope chose the worst possible day to give me this,

"Save your money for another day. Instead, do something else that's free of charge."

I can't possibly spend my entire Saturday masturbating.
